Sky Digibox software - forced downloads

The sky receiver software controls the services on the Sky Digibox. These includes the menu system, the available Sky Channels and interactive services.

If your digibox has been in constant use, your digibox should have the latest software. The Sky satellite automatically broadcasts updates to the digibox's software.

When a digibox has not been used for some time and its software is updated, you will notice various changes to the operation of the digibox like: new channels and interactive services and an updated programme guide.

It is recommended that the software be updated via a "Forced Download" when a digibox has not been used for some time. A digibox may have missed some updates from the Sky satellite when say, you have moved house or bought a receiver second-hand. A Forced Download is essential for all new installations.

To check the software version, press services on your Sky remote then enter the System Setup menu option.

To perform a forced download, follow these steps

  1. Press and hold the back up button on the receiver (not the one on the handset)
  2. While holding down the back up button, switch the receiver off at the mains, then back on again.
  3. After about 10 to 20 seconds all the lights on the front of the receiver will come on. You can now release the back up button.

If your TV is connected to your digibox by SCART lead, a message will appear informing you that the system software is being updated and to wait for about 10 minutes. On the faster digiboxes it may only take 5 minutes.

  4. Once the software update is complete, the message will disappear from the TV screen. Wait for about 30 seconds then press the Sky button on your Sky remote.
  5. You can now go to the System Setup option in the Services menu to check the version
